Overview

Suitcase is a powerful font management utility that makes working with fonts faster and easier than ever before. With Suitcase you can group and open fonts only when you need them, saving valuable system resources. You can even have Suitcase open fonts automatically when an application is launched. St. Edward's Art department uses Extensis Suitcase because we have over 3,000 fonts accessible through every system, but we only keep about 300 fonts active at one time to relieve system memory.

Getting Started

To open Extensis Suitcase X1 you can either access it through the dock or through Macintosh HD > Applications > Extensis Suitcase X1 Folder > Extensis Suitcase X1

This is what the Extensis Suitcase X1 alias looks like.Image-Software-ExtensisSuitcaseX1-Fig 1.png

4. Close this dialog box and focus on the Suitcase Environment. Here you can either browse fonts by clicking on sets in the sets pane and looking at each specific font through the preview pane or you can find a specific font through the font pane or using the quick find search bar.

5. Once you have found the specific font you want to be active, simply click on the previewed font in the preview font pane. The upper-left button of that specific font preview will turn either green or yellow. It will turn from green or yellow to a null gray when turned off. The green button color means the font will be permanently active until selected otherwise by the user. The yellow button color means the font will stay active until the system is restarted. Note Fig 1.

Note: you must activate specific fonts prior to running any program that you want to use them in i.e. Adobe programs won't show activated fonts until the Adobe program is restarted or the font is activated before the Adobe program is opened.

Activating a Font Set

1. Open Extensis Suitcase X1.

2. Choose the font set you would like to activate in the sets pane window. Highlight that set.

3. Activate the entire set you have chosen by clicking on the "Activate" light bulb in the tool bar.Image-Software-ExtensisSuitcaseX1-Fig 6.png

4. Depending on the number of fonts in the set and the size of the set, there might be a short load time. Make sure not to activate too many fonts at once; this will slow down the system's processing speed and ultimately make working slower for you.
