1) Epson Scan has two main windows, the Control Window and the Preview Window. - fig.1, 2

2) After opening Epson Scan, set to Professional Mode. - fig.3

3) Select the document type.

4) Set the image type. This is directly related to bit depth. - fig.4

  • Set to 48-bit Color for color images
  • Set to 16-bit Grayscale for black and white images

5) Set resolution - 4800 dpi is the hardware maximum, anything higher is software interpolation. - fig.5

6) Click the Preview button to perform an overall scan. - fig.6

7) The scanner will take a few seconds to warm up and then will show you the preview. - fig.7

8) When the preview shows up in the preview window, you will need to select the scan area. - fig.8

9) Click the Scan button. - fig.9

10) The File Save Settings window will pop up. Here you will need to set the save location, file name prefix and starting number, and the image type. Tiff is best for lossless files. - fig.10

11) Click OK to start the scan process. You will be shown a progress bar. - fig.11
